A Texas Legend
Cotton Bowl is not just a game that ends with a winning and a losing team. It is also an event of inspiring memories and serves as a witness to every player's story.
William Edward Andrews, popularly known as Rooster Andrews has been a legendary member of the Texas Longhorns. He was first known for being the 4'11" water boy who was sent by Coach Dana X. Bible to kick the extra point after a second-half Texas touchdown, in a game between Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs in 1943.
Rooster Andrews continued to play with the team until the 1946 Cotton Bowl game. It featured Longhorns versus Missouri Tigers that led to a 40-27 victory of Texas.
The 1946 Cotton Bowl game was Rooster Andrews’ last football game due to pursuing a business career. Andrews was well-known not only with his talents in his career but also with his pleasing personality.
It was reported that Rooster Andrews died of respiratory failure January 21 in Austin at age of 84. He will remain and live in the hearts of his friends, colleagues and family and especially in University of Texas’ heart forever.
