2011 Chic-fil-A Bowl Game History:
The Chic-fil-A Bowl has been a college bowl game since 1968. Previously called the Peach Bowl, then the Chic-fil-A Peach Bowl, the Chic-fil-A Bowl has taken place annually at the Georgia Dome since 1991. It took place at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium from 1971 before its present location, and prior to that the Chic-fil-A Bowl took place for just two years at Grant Field.
The Chic-fil-A Bowl pits a Southeastern Conference team against an Atlantic Coast Conference team. The game began as a fundraiser that was put on by the Lions Club. However, a failing attendance resulted in the Chamber of Commerce taking over.
Last years winner of the Chic-fil-A Bowl game was LSU, who beat Georgia Tech in a clearly unmatched win of 38 to 3. Both MVP awards went to LSU players; Quarterback Jordan Jefferson and line backer Perry Riley.
Atlanta Georgia Dome Background and Information:
The Georgia Dome was built in 1992 and is owned by the State of Georgia . Completed at a total cost of $214 million, the Georgia Dome was the largest domed structure in the world at the time of its inception.
The Georgia Dome spans almost nine acres and with its seven levels comes to a total of 1.6 million sq. feet. It is 290 feet high; as tall as a 27-story building.
