Atlanta Information and History

Atlanta was founded in 1837 as the finish of the Western & Atlantic railroad line (it was first named Marthasville in respect of the then-governor's daughter, nicknamed Terminus for its rail location, and then distorted soon after to Atlanta, the feminine of Atlantic -- as in the railroad). Today the fast-growing city leftovers a transportation hub, not just for the state but also for the world: Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport is one of the nation's busiest in daily traveler flights. Direct flights to Europe, South America, and Asia have made metro Atlanta easily nearby to the more than 1,000 international businesses that operate here and the more than 50 countries that have symbol in the city through consulates, trade offices, and chambers of commerce. The city has emerged as a banking center and is the world headquarters for 13 Fortune 500 companies.

Atlanta, recognized as the city too busy to hate or "The Phoenix City", is the biggest in the state of Georgia, with a population of slightly above four hundred thousand residents. Atlanta is in the county seat of Fulton. Atlanta is notably known as the host city for the Summer Olympics in 1996. Atlanta grew in the early on nineteenth century as a railway hub. Atlanta is situated in the north western part of Georgia at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains shut to the Chattahoochee River.

In 1833, Hardy Ivy was the first European colonizer in Atlanta. Atlanta was founded in 1837 and recognized as a city ten years later. Atlanta was chosen as the state capital of Georgia in 1868. In 1864, at the peak of the Civil War, Atlanta was burned and almost annihilated. The city rebuilt following the war. Atlanta's economy is ambitious by the following industries; Manufacturing, Insurance, Communications, Retail Trade, Finance and the Convention and Trade Show Business. Atlanta is residence to the most famous soft drink bottling company in the world, Coca-Cola which was established in 1892 and several other major local and international firms e.g. United Parcel Service, Home Depot and BellSouth.
