Atlanta was founded in 1837 as the finish of the Western & Atlantic railroad line (it was first named Marthasville in respect of the then-governor's daughter, nicknamed Terminus for its rail location, and then distorted soon after to Atlanta, the feminine of Atlantic -- as in the railroad). Atlanta, recognized as the city too busy to hate or "The Phoenix City", is the biggest in the state of Georgia, with a population of slightly above four hundred thousand residents. In 1833, Hardy Ivy was the first European colonizer in Atlanta. Atlanta was founded in 1837 and recognized as a city ten years later. Atlanta was chosen as the state capital of Georgia in 1868. In 1864, at the peak of the Civil War, Atlanta was burned and almost annihilated. The city rebuilt following the war. Atlanta's economy is ambitious by the following industries; Manufacturing, Insurance, Communications, Retail Trade, Finance and the Convention and Trade Show Business. Atlanta is residence to the most famous soft drink bottling company in the world, Coca-Cola which was established in 1892 and several other major local and international firms e.g. United Parcel Service, Home Depot and BellSouth.
