Boston Celtics 2008-2009

As last years NBA Champions against their long-time rivals in the Boston Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers game, the Boston Celtics had an interesting pre-season this year, losing their very first game to another of their three long-time rivals, the Philadelphia 76ers, by only a 6-point margin. Now the regular season is in full-swing, and the Boston Celtics have lost just one game out of their first six.

In the Boston Celtics first game against Oklahoma City Thunder, Celtics fan weren't so sure at first their team would be victorious. In the first quarter, the Thunders scored 29 points to the Boston Celtics 21. Then their offense kicked into overdrive and the Celtics only allowed 15 points while scoring 30. This gave them the lead they needed for the rest of the game. The Boston Celtics pulled a similar feat in the third quarter, scoring 19 to Oklahoma City Thunders 11. The 4 th quarter each team went back and forth, scoring an almost equal amount of points; 26 for the Boston Celtics and 28 for Oklahoma City Thunder. Paul Pierce, the Boston Celtics forward and Captain, scored more than a fourth of the Boston Celtics total points that night at 20 points. Ray Allen, also a Boston Celtics team captain, was close behind at 19 points, and Kevin Garnett brought in 17 points. Ultimately the Boston Celtics vs Oklahoma City Thunder resulted in the Celtics triumph, 96-83.

2007-2008 Boston Celtics Highlights

The 2007-2008 was an exciting year for the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics traded on Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and traded Ray Allen from the Seattle Supersonics. Allen became the Boston Celtics Captain and a leading scorer. After a season-ending injury the season before, Celtics superstar Paul Pierce was primed to win during the 2007-2008 season. Together, Paul Pierce, Allen, and Garnett became an unstoppable three-some on the court.

The Boston Celtics methodically beat out all three of their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, and Philadelphia 76ers, going 66-16 in the regular 2007-2008 season; a record for the Boston Celtics since their last NBA title win in their 1985-1986 season against the Houston Rockets. With such an incredible year, the Boston Celtics once again ruled the TD Banknorth Garden.

Boston
Celtics: A Brief History

The Boston Celtics are members of the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference in the NBA. Founded in 1946, to date the Boston Celtics have won the highest amount of NBA Championships at 17 wins. The Celtics have also won 20 Conference titles and 26 Division titles.

Originally, when they were founded in 1946, the Boston Celtics were members of the Basketball Association of America. Then, in 1949 the BAA and the National Basketball League merged to become one; the NBA. Now, for 60 years the Boston Celtics have wooed fans from all across America .

To this day, the Celtics have more NBA Hall of Famers than any other team; 33 in total. .Half of those men were induced solely for their phenomenal contributions to the Boston Celtics on the court. The Boston Celtics have had many basketball legends grace their green jerseys, including Larry Bird, Bill Russel, and even Rick Fox.

The Celtics recruited NBA staple Red Auerbach the following year, in 1950, and until his death in 2006, Red led the Celtics and the NBA through many historical moments; including the drafting of the first African-American NBA player Chuck Cooper as well as having the first all African American starting line-up in 1964.

The Boston Celtics had a dark season in 2006 after the loss of Red, and it was a shame he could not see one last NBA title won for his beloved Boston Celtics before his death. But the Celtics honored him in the best way they could- by winning the next year.
