Can The Warriors Go Past Round Two?

Golden State Warriors

WARRIORS

The Golden State Warriors have managed to keep their competiveness level at high levels almost throughout the season. Whilst the team faced a bunch of injuries and small periods of slump, they have now solidified their playoff spot and they are, in fact, one of the strongest championship black horses in the Western Conference. The Dubs will most probably meet the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs and this will be a very tough matchup for them. Can they roll past the Clips and advance to the second round?

The two teams have split the season series to two apiece this year. Although the Warriors are one of the teams with the scariest shooting abilities from three-point range they are also a team that has experienced ups and downs this season. When Golden State focuses on cutting down on its turnovers and playing tight defense, they can really be a tough team to beat. Especially when the sharpshooting duo of Klay Thompson and Steph Curry sink their shots from beyond the arc, the Dubs can be unstoppable.

Warriors Vs Clippers Tickets

WARRIORS & CLIPPERS

Nonetheless, the competition level is extreme as of now in the West. The Warriors are a very good team but they will face an even better one in the first round. If the LA Clippers are their matchup, the Warriors will stand some good chances to make it to the second round. Of course, if Golden State manages to steal the fifth seed from the Portland Trail Blazers and meet the Houston Rockets in the first round, things could be even better for them. Portland currently stands two games ahead of Golden State and have not been at their best shape as of lately. Although the Warriors lost two out of their three meetings with the Houston Rockets, they seem capable of matching with Houston’s strong points.

It will all come down to the Warriors’ pace and the conditions of key players most probably, like Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut. As long as the Splash Brothers stay hot on the one end of the floor and as long as the Dubs have Iggy and Bogut shutting down the lanes on the defensive end, they can stay optimistic that they can advance to the next round. It will be a surprise to see the Warriors topping the Clips and even the Rockets in the first round. However, this won’t be the first time we saw surprises happening in the NBA.

Oracle Arena Warriors Tickets Playoff Tickets

Oracle Arena

With just four home games left at the Oracle Arena the Warriors have a potential chance to win all four since three are against non playoff teams and only one the Timberwolves should give them some struggles. Golden State sites in the sixth spot of the Western Conference only two points behind the Blazers but 5 1/2 points behind the Rockets who lost yesterday to the Clippers which would give them home court advantage in the first round, one that the Warriors could definitely use. Although Warriors playoff tickets are on sale now starting at just $125 a ticket the dates and venue of their first round games have not been announced yet. All Warriors playoff tickets for games that are not played come with a 100% refund. Buying Warriors playoff tickets early locks your price in so if ticket prices raise your still set to go. Chris

Who Will The Clippers Face In First Round Of Playoffs

LA Clippers Playoff Tickets

Lob City

The Los Angeles Clippers are going all the way towards a strong championship run this season. The team currently is within the chase of a better seed in the West, which will increase its chances to win the title in the conference and head to the NBA Finals for the first time in its franchise history. Let’s see which the potential opponents for the Clips are in the first round of the playoffs.

Doc Rivers’s group currently stands at the fourth seed of the Western Conference. The truth is that it has been stuck there for quite some time. In fact, the Clippers will most probably fight till the end with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Houston Rockets for the seeds three to five. LA is 4.5 games behind the conference-leaders, Oklahoma City Thunder. We are just 20 games before the end of the regular season and the truth is that things could. However, it’s almost clear which will be the teams that will make it to the playoffs, with only the eighth spot still being a mystery.

Thanks to the recent additions of Glen Davis and Danny Granger, which fill the exact holes the Clippers had in their team, Chris Paul and Co. are expected to record an even better course till the end of the season, in comparison to their record up to now. It’s significant that the Clips have managed to stay at the fourth seed during the time CP3 was out with an injury.

Clippers Blazers Playoff Tickets

Clips VS Blazers

The Clippers could also meet the Trail Blazers in the first round. This will happen if the two teams finish at the fourth and fifth spots. Although the Blazers started the season red hot, leading the Western Conference for some stretches of the season, they have now fallen to the fifth spot. This will be a very difficult matchup for the Clips, but they still have the best odds to eliminate Portland in the playoffs.

So one potential opponent for the Clippers is the Golden State Warriors. This will be a tough matchup for the Clips, since the Dubs are a very dangerous opponent. The Warriors have won two out of their three meetings up to now in the season against the Clips. Due to their ups and downs, it’s still unclear where the Warriors will end up ranking at the end of the season. However, they are for sure a potential opponent for the Clips in the first round.

LA Clippers Staples Center

Clipper Nation

A Houston Rockets Clippers is a potential first round match up as well. The Rockets have climbed to the third seed in the West, but they could fall again to the fifth in no time. This will be the first playoff appearance for Houston with Dwight Howard onboard so it’s still uncertain how the team will perform. The Clips should be able to roll past them in a seven-game stretch.

Clippers Playoff Tickets for all Staples Center games are onsale now. If a game isnt played Barry’s Tickets offer a complete refund on your tickets or you can apply it to another game if you like.Chris Michaels

Blazers First Round Match Up Possibilities

Portland Trail Blazers

Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers are indeed one of the strongest title contenders in the Western Conference this season. Whilst they entered the 2013-2014 campaign as underdogs, they have earned the contender characterization thanks to their incredible performances, especially during the first months of the season and also thanks to their consistency. The Blazers currently rank third in the conference, but it’s still unclear at which spot they’ll end up at the end of the regular season. Let’s examine who will the Blazers play in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

The truth is that the Blazers seem capable of beating almost any opponent, at least in the Western Conference. The Blazers won’t most probably meet the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first leg, so we’ll keep them off of our discussion.

Dallas Mavericks

Portland Trail Blazers

Blazers

If the regular season ended today, the Dallas Mavericks would be the first-round opponents of the Portland Trail Blazers. Rip City would be the obvious favorite in this matchup. Although the Mavs are over performing this season, they have neither the quality nor depth to match with the Blazers in a seven-game series. Damian Lillard would own the point guard spot, since Jose Calderon is unmistakable slower than the Blazers’ superstar. In the battle of the power forwards, between Dirk Nowitzki and LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland has the upper hand, too. Aldridge is recording arguably the best season of his career, while Dirk not at the best shape he’s been.

Golden State Warriors
The Dubs will be an opponent to avoid for the Blazers come playoff time. The Warriors are a very dangerous team and when the duo of Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry find rhythm, it’s almost impossible to stop them. The Warriors are great against teams with thin defensive lines and Portland currently ranks 25th in the league in points allowed. The Warriors currently rank seventh in the Western Conference but they are a potential opponent for the Blazers.

Phoenix Suns

Damian Lillard Blazers

Damian Lillard

The Phoenix Suns are another strong potential opponent for the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers could find themselves playing against the Suns, who have been impressive up to now in the season. No one really saw them coming this season and yet they have managed to establish themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in the West. No team, even the highest-seeded one, will really want to meet the Suns in the first leg of the playoffs. The Suns currently rank eighth in the West, but they may be able to climb one or two seeds by the end of the regular season.

Houston Rockets
The battle for the spots three to five is very close in the West. The Houston Rockets have been trying to clinch one of the highest ones this season. At the end, though we might see the Rockets falling a bit behind and meeting the Blazers in the first leg of the playoffs. Whilst Dwight Howard and James Harden have already build chemistry, the Blazers have the potential to top them in a seven-game series. My favorite match up would be the Blazers Vs Rockets!Chris Michaels

CP3 Returns To Clippers Lineup

The Los Angeles Clippers had an outstanding finish to the week, welcoming back Chris Paul in the process. After losing to Denver and Miami to start the week the Clippers rebounded with consecutive victories over Toronto and Philadelphia, the latter marking the return of Chris Paul. The Clippers star point guard returned earlier than expected, helping the Clippers blow out the 76ers 123-78.

Blake Griffin has monster Dunks

Blake Griffin

Week Recap: The Clippers kicked off a week with a visit to Denver to take on the Nuggets at Pepsi Center. Blake Griffin had another massive game but the Nuggets pulled out the victory on Randy Foye’s three point shot at the buzzer. Foye’s deep three pointer came just six seconds after Matt Barnes hit a three on the other end of the court to give the Clippers a 115-113 lead. Griffin, playing the best basketball of his career in the absence of Paul had 36 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Following the tough defeat in Denver the Clippers had the tough task of returning home to STAPLES Center to face Lebron James and the Miami Heat. The NBA was treated to one of its best games of the season as James and Griffin put together tremendous individual performances. The Clippers made a valiant effort to overcome a big Miami third quarter lead, but they couldn’t quite make it all the way back. The story for the Clippers was Griffin who had a season-high 43 points in the loss. It was Miami’s first win at STAPLES Center in six seasons. James had 31 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds for Miami. It was a tough second consecutive loss for the Clippers, putting them a half a game behind the Houston Rockets for the fourth playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Clippers rebounded from the Miami loss with consecutive victories over Eastern Conference foes, Toronto and Philadelphia. Saturday night Blake Griffin again scored over 30 times, this time with 36, to become the first Clippers player ever to score more than 30 in three straight games. The Clippers momentum continued into Sunday night when they scored an incredible 46 first quarter points en route to easily defeating the 76ers behind another strong performance from Blake Griffin.

LA Clippers Vs Blazers

Clippers Vs Blazers

The Week Ahead: The Clippers have a light schedule heading into next week’s All Star weekend with just one game, an important matchup with the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. The Blazers are currently a game and a half on top of the Clippers for the third playoff spot in the west. Los Angeles is a half a game ahead of the Houston Rockets, currently on a five-game winning streak. Following the All Star Break the Clippers return home for a key game versus the San Antonio Spurs before heading off on a three-game road stretch that includes a key game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Over the next two weeks the Clippers will face each of the three teams ahead of them in the Western Conference standings, giving them an opportunity to make up ground. Chris Michaels.

Can The Trail Blazers Continue In 2014

Portland Trail Blazers

Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers are the biggest surprise in the NBA this season. Some analysts could have predicted a good course for them in 2013-2014 but even the most optimistic fan wouldn’t expect a 23-5 start and the first seed in the conference. The Blazers look to continue their hot streak in 2014. Let’s break down their schedule.

The first game for Portland in 2014 comes on January 2 against the Charlotte Bobcats. The Blazers should start the New Year with a victory. The Philadelphia 76ers are their next opponent, again at home.
After a game on the road against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, January 7, the Blazers return at home to play three straight at the Moda Center. They start on January 8 in a game against the Orlando Magic, three days later they host the Boston Celtics and then they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Portland then goes on a four-game road trip, which starts on Friday, January 17 at San Antonio. A day later they meet the Dallas Mavericks and on January 20 they play against the Houston Rockets. The road trip ends with a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tuesday, January 21.

Then The Blazers host the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves, before playing against the Golden State Warriors on the road, on January 26.

Memphis and Toronto will be visiting Portland to play against the Blazers. Neither of those two opponents should be underestimated, despite their slow start in the season.

Damian Lillard Blazers

Damian Lillard

Another four-game road trip is next for the Blazers, with the first game being scheduled for February 3 against the Washington Wizards. On February 5 the Blazers play against the New York Knicks in the Madison Square Garden. The Indiana Pacers are their next opponent, in what will be a really tough and interesting game. The Pacers and the Blazers are arguably the two hottest teams this season. The four-game road trip ends in Minnesota on February 8.

The Blazers then play two difficult games, the first one on February 11 against the Thunder and one day later against the Clippers. Then they play three straight at home, versus the Spurs, the Utah Jazz and the Wolves.

On February 25 the Blazers travel to Denver to play against the Nuggets again and then they return at home to play four straight at the Moda Center. The Brooklyn Nets, the Nuggets, the Lakers and the Atlanta Hawks will be their opponents.

A five-game road trip then is scheduled for the Blazers. It starts with a game against the Dallas Mavericks on March 7. Houston, Memphis and San Antonio are the next stops for Portland before their road-trip ends on March 14 in New Orleans.

On Sunday, March 16, the Golden State Warriors come to Portland to take on the Blazers. Then the Blazers host the Milwaukee Bucks and the Washington Wizards.

Another five-game road trip follows, with Charlotte being the first stop. Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and Chicago follow. The last game for March comes on Sunday, March 30 against the Grizzlies at the Moda Center.

Trail Blazers in 2014

2014 Blazers

The Blazers will face the Lakers on April 1, then they will host the Suns, the Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings. Utah is their next stop before the team returns to Portland to host the last two games of the regular season, against the Warriors on April 13 and against the Clips on April 16.

My prediction is the Trail Blazers are for real and will end up winning the Western Conference when all is said and done! Now beating the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals is a whole different ball of wax.By:Chris Michaels.

Yes Virgina The Trail Blazers Are Championship Contenders

Portland Trail Blazers

Trail Blazers

This season in the NBA we are seeing some teams struggling to play up to the expectations every fan had for them, like the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. However, there is also a team that is playing surprisingly well and that’s no other than the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland is up to a 19-4 start in the season and it currently sits atop of the Western Conference. The Blazers have been really impressive up to now but can they really be considered as a title contender?

During the first month of the season it’s true that Portland had an easy schedule. They didn’t play against the best teams in the league. After a 13-3 start, lots of discussions around the NBA pointed out that the Blazers played only against weak opponents. Now, after a month and a half into the season and after beating teams like the Indiana Pacers, the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the month of December, it’s time to face the reality. Portland are one of the best teams in the league. At least they are playing like one and they will be contending for the Larry O’Brien trophy.

Damian Lillard is continuing to improve his performance, after winning the Rookie of the Year award last season. He is scoring 19.3 points per contest, dishing out 5.6 assists and grabbing 3.7 rebounds per game this season. His shooting percentages are decent, too, 39.7 percent from the floor and 41.3 percent from three-point territory. Where the 23-year old point guard makes an impact for the Blazers is defense. Lillard has found the way to use the strengths of his teammates when defending the pick-and-roll.
Of course, the presence of LaMarcus Aldridge is also one of the main reasons Portland has found that much success this season. Aldridge can be fairly considered as one of the best power forwards in the NBA this season. He is leading Portland in scoring with 23.5 points per contest. He is also averaging 10.6 boards per contest and shooting 48.1 percent from the field.

Nicolas Batum and Wesley Matthews are also playing vital roles in the team’s success up to now, averaging 13.6 and 16.3 per contest respectively. Mo Williams, Thomas Robinson and Robin Lopez deliver with consistency, while Portland is playing without its rookie and 10th pick of this year’s draft, C.J. McCollum.

It seems like Head Coach Terry Stotts is utilizing the strengths of each member of the team. Not only Portland has turned into a scoring machine this season, ranking second in the league with 106.4 points but they are also doing really well on offense. The Blazers sit at the 16th spot in the NBA in points allowed. However, the defensive system they are playing well has some principles that might prove out to be crucial during the postseason. The Blazers are forcing low-percentage mid-range shots from their opponents, while closing down perfectly on perimeter shooters and securing the paint.
The fact that with a month and a half after the start of the season the Blazers stand above teams-dynasties in the tough Western Conference, like the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Rockets is impressive. They should not be underestimated when it comes to championship contention.

Western Conference Contenders and Pretenders

Western Conference

Western Conference

Two weeks into the 2013-2014 NBA season the Western Conference is taking shape. The usual contenders, San Antonio and Oklahoma City are at the top, but with Denver and the Los Angeles Lakers struggling there’s an opportunity for some new contenders to make a playoff run. Here’s a look at the elite, contenders and pretenders of the early NBA season.

The West Elite: (San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors)

The veteran San Antonio Spurs picked up where they left off and are off to a fast start to begin the season. They’re well coached, experienced and deep and should contend for the top record in the NBA all season. If Tim Duncan and Tony Parker can stay healthy the Spurs are the favorites for a return trip to the finals. The Oklahoma City Thunder welcomed back Russell Westbrook early and their star point guard seems to be the same explosive player he was before his meniscus tear. The Thunder is 5-1 on the season with their lone loss versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. The presence of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook guarantees 55 to 60 wins—how that translates into the postseason is the big question. The Thunder still misses that extra scorer that James Harden once provided. The Los Angeles Clippers are still adjusting to the coaching style of Doc Rivers, but have a deep lineup and bench and an elite point guard in Chris Paul.

The Next in Line: (Minnesota, Memphis, Dallas, Houston)

The Minnesota Timberwolves are finally healthy and displaying the potential that many predicted when Ricky Rubio arrived in the United States. In Rubio, Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic the Wolves have one of the best trios in basketball and an elite Head Coach in Rick Adelman. The Wolves acquisition of Kevin Martin, who thrived under Adelman in Sacramento, has given the club the strong perimeter shooting two guard they missed. Look for the Wolves to challenge the 50 win mark and reach the playoffs for the first time under Love. Memphis switched Head Coaches, with Dave Joerger taking over for Lionel Hollins. They’ve struggled initially in the transition but still feature the same big and physical lineup that’s worked for them the past three seasons. Marc Gasol is one of the league’s best centers and he forms perhaps the best center/power forward combination in basketball with Zach Randolph. The Dallas Mavericks, who missed the playoffs last season, have rebuilt to make another run. The newly minted backcourt of Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon is working so far, giving Dirk Nowitzki the guard play he hasn’t had since the Mavs title run. The key for Dallas, like San Antonio, is the health of their veteran players. Over in Houston the Rockets have the potential to be in the elite group, but have struggled defensively so far this season. Dwight Howard is showing many of the same inconsistencies he displayed in Los Angeles last season and he’s not yet providing the interior defensive presence the Rockets desperately need. Houston can score points on anybody; the big question is whether or not they can defend like an NBA title contender. Right now the jury is still out.

On the Upswing: (Portland)

The Blazers are off to a fast start (5-2), although only one victory is over a legit playoff contender (San Antonio). That being said the Blazers look to be a club that can occupy the playoff position(s) that the Lakers and/or Denver may be vacating. LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the premier power forwards in the game, while Damian Lillard and Nicolas Batum are consistently improving their game. The Blazers have been efficient, reducing turnovers, and are second in the conference in field goal attempts per game. Their +4.0 scoring margin is good for 5th in the conference.

Bubble Teams: (Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans)

Putting the Lakers in the bubble team category may be a stretch. Their success hinges on how close to .500 they are when Kobe Bryant returns. Los Angeles has improved their overall depth and the youth of their roster, but still lacks the quality depth of most playoff contenders. It’s questionable whether or not Steve Nash has anything left in the tank as he battles persistent injuries. If Nash can’t provide the minutes the Lakers need they may plummet down the standings. The Pelicans are an interesting club. They’ve had some good victories this season as well as some bad performances. They’ve injected some talent into their roster but it’s still not clear how the backcourt trio of Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon, Jrue Holliday will co-exist due to their high ball usage rate. Inside though the Pelicans have the emerging Anthony Davis who’s quickly becoming the superstar many predicted. Davis alone could be the difference maker that vaults the Pelicans into playoff contention.

The Pretenders: (Sacramento, Denver)

The Sacramento Kings have a talented roster that once again looks like a bunch of spare parts. DeMarcus Cousins is one of the most talented big men in the game, putting together a solid season. His checkered past though makes it hard to rely on him day in and day out. Ben McLemore has great potential but he’s young and finding his place in the NBA. The Kings have nice depth inside and some solid role players, but due to the consistent roster overhaul it’s been hard for them to find consistency. They’ll be a lottery team again. Denver, a Western Conference power last season is off to a slow start in the post-George Karl era. Losing several key roster components, like Andre Iguodola, Corey Brewer and Kosta Koufus has disrupted their rotation. They still have Ty Lawson to lead the team but the recent injury to Javale McGee is another blow to their depth. Denver has a significant home court advantage at Pepsi Center that could make them a fringe playoff contender, but it’s hard to see them making much of a run.
Andrew Wiggins Contenders: (Utah)

The Jazz are the NBA’s worst right now. With Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson playing for other teams the Jazz are relying on the young of Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward and Enes Kanter to provide the bulk of the scoring. The trio has potential but they’re young and overmatched against the rest of the Western Conference. Utah is solidly positioned to get a high lottery pick with the ability to add a significant piece next June.

Jeremy Lin Verbally Agrees to Houston Rockets

Jeremy Lin

Jeremy Lin

As of July 6, last season’s NBA sensation Jeremy Lin has verbally agreed to sign a four year offer sheet with the Houston Rockets. The New York Knicks have until July 11th to make a counteroffer.

You can see the 2012-2013 Houston Rockets Schedule or the New York Knicks Schedule.

The purported deal is said to be approximately worth $28.8 million. Of that 28.8 million, 10.2 million would come in Lin’s first two seasons with the Rockets, and over $9 million in each of the last two years of the deal.

Lin, a restricted free agent, can still be retained by the New York Knicks if they decide to match Houston’s offer. Likewise, the Knicks have been adamant that they intend to do everything they can to keep the star player.

A source within the league stated that the Rockets intended to offer Lin a back worthy deal worth roughly $30 million. Currently, it is estimated that the best deal the Knicks can offer Lin is a four year contract worth $24.5 million.

Ironically, the Rockets had Lin in their own training camp last season, but waived him due to roster space. Now Houston is doing everything within their powers to get him back.

Lin, who was undrafted out of Harvard, averaged 14.6 points, 6.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 35 games with 25 starts last season for the Knicks.

The Houston Rockets already are extremely popular in Asia due to the playing career of their former star Yao Ming, who retired in 2011. Jeremy Lin could certainly add to their appeal in the region as the first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese decent.
