Dodgers 7, White Sox 6: A wild pitch plated James Loney with the decisive run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Los Angeles prevailed in a battle of first-place clubs.
You can still purchase Dodgers Vs White Sox Tickets for the 16th and 17th. On Sunday the 17th its Fathers Sports Bag Giveaway.
After Alex Rios pulled the White Sox even with his second solo home run of the game in the top of the eighth, the Dodgers regained the upper hand in the bottom of the inning. Loney reached on a one-out pinch-hit single, moved to second on a walk, took third on a fielder’s choice and came home after Matt Thornton (2-4) uncorked a wild pitch.
Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth to save it for Ronald Belisario (2-0), who pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Adam Dunn put the visitors in front with his major league-leading 23rd home run, a two-run shot in the top of the first inning. After Elian Herrera’s RBI double in the bottom of the first brought Los Angeles within a run, Paul Konerko and Orlando Hudson stretched the Chicago lead with run-scoring singles in the third and fourth innings, respectively.
Rios hit his first homer in the fifth to make it 5-1, but the Dodgers rallied with five runs in the sixth inning to claim the lead. Herrera tied the game with a two-out, two-run double and came in to score on a base hit by Juan Rivera.
Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out seven and walked two. Chicago’s Chris Sale was charged with five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking four.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dunn, who has homered in the last five games he has started, struck out for the 100th time this season in his 222nd at-bat. … Sale had won five consecutive starts. … Dunn and Rios have already combined for 31 home runs, seven more than they totaled all of last season.

Aaron Michael Harang
The Los Angeles Dodgers now have the unbelievable talent and experience of veteran starting pitcher Aaron Harang in their rotation as they start their 2012-2013 Dodgers Season campaign. Despite having been sidelined in recent years by various health issues that put him on the disabled list multiple times, the veteran right-hander is coming off a rebound season, going 14-7 with a 3.64 ERA in 170.2 innings pitched.
The Dodgers are hopeful that Harang can stay healthy and keep up his performance as they finally landed the prolific pitcher late last year after having pursued Harang heavily in the past. The 33-year-old was signed to a 2-year, $12 million, free-agent contract with a mutual option for 2014 to help fill in the team after the departure of Hiroki Kuroda, slotting in as the Dodgers’ fourth starter.
“It made it more enticing, knowing it wasn’t something just spontaneous, like, ‘Let’s just go after this guy,’” Harang said. “It’s been in the back of my mind that they’ve wanted me a while. That made it an easier decision, knowing people want you and have been working at something for multiple years.”
For Harang, one of the added attractions of signing with the Dodgers was the proximity to home and playing at the Los Angeles Dodgers Stadium. The San Diego native was born on May 9, 1978 in San Diego, California and continues to reside in the area with his family. While pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium is not quite as spacious as Petco Park – or as much as a veritable oasis for pitchers of any quality – the 6-foot-7, 260-pound right-hander is confident that his addition to the Dodgers rotation is a good fit and believes there is a very good chance that the Dodgers will contend this season.
“I’m excited about the opportunity I have here. This is a really good ballclub here. We definitely have a shot to be there at the end.”
Harang was first drawn into professional baseball after being selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 22nd round of the 1996 MLB Draft (661st overall) but he did not sign with the team, opting to finish college. Following his graduation from San Diego State University, Harang was drafted and signed by the Texas Rangers in the 6th round of the 1999 MLB Draft (195th overall), kicking off a solid career that has seen him soar into the Major Leagues and develop into a top-caliber pitcher.

Los Angeles Dodgers Season Preview – 2012
Analysis of the 2011 season
The Dodgers were a gloriously average team last year, finishing the season 82-79 and coming in 3rd in the NL West. In many of the main statistics the Dodgers were also in the middle of the pack, including batting average (12th in the league), on base percentage (14th), and saves (16th). That said the Dodgers also have a lot of things that went well last season to build off of. They committed only 85 errors on the season (5th best in the league) and had a team pitching ERA of 3.54 (5th). Where the team seemed to fall short was on offense however, only scoring 644 runs (21st in the league). While this is far from the worst in the MLB (and earned them a +32 in runs differential), it’s also something that, if improved significantly, will make the Dodgers a playoff team in 2012.
Analysis of the offseason
Overshadowed by the cross-town success of the Angels this offseason, the Dodgers still made some significantly good moves without changing the successful core of their team. The signing of star OF Matt Kemp to an 8-year deal was perhaps the biggest win for the Dodgers as Kemp is a guaranteed superstar hitting the prime of his career. Resigning Andre Ethier and James Loney were also good moves, and the 2-year deal reached with pitcher Clayton Kershaw (their best arm) was vital to keeping the Dodgers’ fantastic pitching staff intact. Signing Aaron Harang from free agency, a past strikeout and wins champion in the National League, was probably the biggest splash they made out of resigning players.
Analysis of the 2012 season
There are a few tough stretches that will determine the success of the Dodgers this year. In late June they’ll have to go on the road for two series, first against the Angels and then against the rival Giants, that will be key to keeping or regaining momentum for the heart of the season. 4 or 5 wins from those 6 games will go a long way to helping the Dodgers’ confidence as they go up against the reeling Mets and Reds after that. Wining those initial series would mean almost a month of wins and playoff implications that could be the make or break part of the year. The last 3 series for the Dodgers are on the road at San Diego, at home against the Rockies, and at home against the Giants again. A strong finish may just mean a wildcard berth in a tough division led by the Diamondbacks.
Key Players
As mentioned, Matt Kemp is the star of this team. The leader in batting average, home runs, rbi’s, on base percentage, stolen bases and hits, Kemp’s signing means that the Dodgers not only believe that he will be successful in the future but also the cornerstone of their franchise. Kemp has publicly said that he intends to steal 50 bases and hit 50 home runs this season, something that has never been done in the MLB before. If can somehow accomplish this (or even come close) the Dodgers will be looking at a much better season this year as opposed to last. Kershaw is also an invaluable member of the team, leading the team in ERA, wins, and strikeouts. His performance may just be the key for the pitching of the Dodgers to become one of the best staffs in the league.
Prediction
The Dodgers are largely going to be the same team next year and, due to their young age and decent performance last season, will probably be a bit better in 2012. With the man that could be the league MVP on their side and a year of keeping the core of their players together I don’t foresee a fantastic team, but a team that will win more 5-10 more games than last season. This might win the NL West if the D-Backs and Giants both underperform, but I don’t think it will.
Prediction = 87-75, 2nd in the NL West

Since Los Angeles concerts and games get out roughly around the same time, the list is going to apply for food/drink options, then some club or bar options. The LA Live area and Staples Center as you may know are across the street from one another, so getting to any of these places will be from the same area. Directions are by car.
LA Live Area)
Yard House – This place has a HUGE selection of beers on tap. From Tangerine Hef to a standard Bud Light, you can get beers in large yard size glasses, also food is served. Prices are moderate and it is usually busy on weekends.
ESPN Zone – For the sports fanatic, you could presumably watch the game here if you aren’t at the stadium, there are plenty of TVs, decent bar, with decent food. Its a great place to watch Lakers, Clippers, LA Kings, Dodgers, Angels or other sports games with friends.
Conga Room – Cool for drinks/dancing, its upstairs in the LA Live area near Nokia. Will get packed weekends and after concerts. Its a Latin themed bar, you need to be dressy, you can’t wear jerseys or baggy clothes, they are strict on the dress code.
Lucky Strike – Not just regular crappy bowling, but upscale bowling. This location in particular has a much bigger bar than other Lucky Strikes. They even have bottle service (not worth it). You’ll need reservations on weekends so if you time it well it could work. The bowling is expensive, but its great for a group atmosphere (mainly because of price). The drink prices aren’t bad for your location, its dark inside, but overall fun, I’ve been here a couple times and it was a good time, service usually sucks, get your drinks at the bar.
Club Nokia – The club basically inside of the Nokia Theatre. Some tickets will give you access to it. It is a very cool place inside, I went after a show and it was fairly busy. The style is ultra-modern, again you need to dress for this place. Think of the movie Tron in Los Angeles, modern.
Katsu-ya Sushi – Somewhat pricey and delicious upscale sushi. You won’t find a classic California Roll, but you’ll be very happy you tried it. Menu is shown up front, it is very much worth it. I’ve been to the one closer to me, not this particular location, but its about the same menu.
Downtown)
Big Wangs – Chain place, great for cheap wings and a great selection of beers that will rotate specials throughout the night. They have karaoke some nights as well. Good atmosphere, casual, service pretty good and not expensive. (Grand Avenue, 5 minutes from LA Live)
The Edison – Serious dress code, but basically a club/bar that is in an old power plant (hence, the Edison), expensive, but always packed and always a good time, artsy feel. (2nd and Main, 8 minutes)
The Standard Rooftop Bar – Not sure who you’re going with, but if its a date, this is awesome. Atop The Standard Hotel (Where they filmed Get Him to the Greek), gives you an awesome view of surrounding LA, its expensive, wear something warm during the winter, it can get nippy. They also added a biergarten recently for German beer samples and sausages etc.(South Flower and 6th, 8 minutes)
Library Bar – Very cool decor, cheaper option than The Standard which is nearby. Lots of people come here after work, so very suit-like feel. Big selection of mixed drinks that are strong and good. I went here on a weekday, so the calibur of busy may not be typical, but it was pretty busy. (8th street)
Hotel Figueroa Lounge (The Fig) – Cool lounge at the base of the hotel. I’ve been here during the day, sadly not at night, but it is a warm atmosphere, had a typical drink so I can’t rave about it. It is right near Staples Center, great location and if you get too wasted, just book a room (not the cheapest). (Figueroa Street)
Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles – No bar here, just delicious chicken n’ waffles. Good if you have a food craving after a show or game. Its less than 15 minutes from Staples. Very cheap, very good, no fancy dress code, closes at midnight if I am not mistaken. (Pico and La Brea, just take Pico, west, 15 minutes or less)
The Gorbals – A little different, this place is for food and its open late, they have a bar as well. This place will be a bit hard to find, its inside of a building which appears to be pretty shady and it kind of it. Inside try the matozah balls wrapped with bacon or the latkas, both are delicious. The drinks are moderately priced. The chef won Top Chef apparently. I was here on New Years, music was good, service good as well. (501 Spring Street, remember, its inside of a building, bottom floor, 10 minutes, considering you’ll get lost)
Broadway Bar – This is from a recommendation of a friend who lives right in downtown. 2 story place, good happy hour prices, would be good after a game. Dress code, but I’m told they wont hassle, but sports gear is a no-no. outside has a patio, good beer prices as has an old feel to it. (Broadway, 5 minutes)
Wurstküche – German Beerhall/Sausage place. Really cool, huge selection of beers, usually very busy. You can try rattlesnake and many other types of pretty odd sausages. German and Belgium beers on tap, picnic style tables medium price (E 3rd Street, 10 minutes)
Seven Grand – Another recommendation. This is a whiskey bar but serves a nice selection of beer as well. Casual dress code, the price can be a little high depending on what you get. Amazing atmosphere, great staff, amazing selection, very fitting for the area. Its upstairs with a patio, pool tables. (Seven and Grand, clever right? 8 minutes)
The Pantry – Food only, 24/7 classic restaurant, been open forever, they’ve never closed their doors. Cash only, very good food any time of the day (or night). (South Figueroa, 2 minutes)
We also stock tickets for all Nokia Theater events as well.

At Owners’ Meeting, a committee formed to study integration, which includes Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey, delivers its secretive report defending the covert color barrier which exists in professional baseball. The absurd reasons given to why blacks shouldn’t be allowed to play in the big leagues include an absence of skills due to inferior training and lack of fundamentals and the need to respect Negro League contracts, but another lesser known motivation may have been profit as revealed later in the report, “The Negro leagues rent their parks in many cities from clubs in Organized Baseball (and) Club owners in the major leagues are reluctant to give up revenues amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars every year” as well as the fear white fans would be driven away if black players attracted more minorites to the ballpark. |

| 1986 |
With one out in the bottom of the eleventh inning and the visiting Mets ahead, 6-5, Padres infielder Tim Flannery lines a single to center field where Lenny Dykstra comes up throwing to nail the runner trying to score from second base. Knocked on his back by Gary Templeton, catcher John Gibbons, from a prone position, throws a strike to Howard Johnson who tags out Flannery, trying to get to third base, ending the game with an unusual 8-2-5 double play. |

Top 5 Dodger Baseball Players
Sandy Koufax
Sandford “Sandy” Koufax was probably the best pitcher in baseball history. As Casey Stengel said: “Forget the other guy (Walter Johnson).” Sandy Koufax, in just four years, probably was been the best pitcher in baseball in its heyday. Whether Koufax was the most dominant pitcher is still debatable, but he was certainly the more skillful Dodgers pitcher -. graceful with the body in general through his long strides, his performance would toward batters would fool them with pronations; pitches that could be heard but not seen. Stengel also noted that “judges often can not see where Koufax pitches go, so they have to judge by the sound of their senior catcher’s glove. “
Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson died on October 24, 1972. He was the first black Major League Baseball (MLB) baseball player of the modern era. Robinson made his debut with the Dodgers Brooklyn in 1947. As the first black man to play in the majors since 1880, he helped put an end to racial segregation in professional baseball, which had relegated two seperate leagues for African Americans and non-African Americans. The example of his character and undeniable talent challenged the traditional basis of segregation, which was then marked with many other aspects of American life, and contributed significantly to the civil rights movement. (He was inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 23, 1962, making him the first black to gain the honor.)
Don Drysdale
Don Drysdale, the Hall of Fame pitcher and television Dodgers personality, was found dead in his hotel room in Montreal on Saturday. He apparently suffered a heart attack. He was 56. During his career Drysdale baseball 14 years, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, nicknamed “Big D”, compiled a record of 209-166 with a career average ERA of 2.95. He knocked in five World Series and eight Major League All-Star Game.
Duke Snider
Born September 19, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, Duke Snider was an excellent athlete all his life, first as a quarterback in high school and later playing baseball for the Dodgers. Throughout his18 year career, Snider hit 407 home runs. Duke Snider became a Hall of Fame member in 1980.
Mike Piazza
His “Historical Baseball Abstract A new,” the writer Bill James wrote, “it is clear that Mike Piazza is the greatest hitting catcher in history.” Piazza had an amazing offensive production, including nine seasons with 30 or more dwellings. Defying the odds, Piazza was a low draft pick, who made his way to the Dodgers organization by becoming an all-star player.
Wonder what Dodgers players in recent history can be added to this list??
