Neil Diamond Locks In “Hot August Night” Anniversary Show

March 5th, 2012
Neil Diamond Greek Theater

Neil Diamond Greek Theater

In Los Angeles, Diamond will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his 1972 “Hot August Night” double album by playing a return engagement at the Greek on Aug. 11 and 16.
And in a lineup that, at press time, already featured a number of major shows at the Greek — including gigs by Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth, a season-opening Cinco De Mayo festival starring Los Lobos and visits from Al Green, Alan Jackson, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, and Crosby, Stills & Nash — the Diamond booking is, well, a gem.
Hodges said Diamond and Azoff have been “very hands-on” in working with the Greek in putting the show together at the 5,800-seater, where a few seats and part of the orchestra pit will be lost in order to expand the stage and set up several rows of VIP seats.
Diamond will return to the stage this summer and play all the hits made famous by that recording, including such standards as “Solitary Man,” “Red Red Wine,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” “Sweet Caroline” and “I Am … I Said.”

Katy Perry’s California Dreams and the Drama

June 21st, 2011

Earlier this year, Katy Perry had announced Robyn, the Swedish pop star, as her opening act. Ever since, Robyn had been hounded by the media, asking her about her opinion on Katy Perry’s music and it turns out that she did not have any.

Now her silence on the subject was taken as an indication that Robyn did not really like Katy Perry’s music, which makes her opening act for Perry awkward, to say the least.

The interview in question was with Time Out, when Robyn was asked about her plans to open for California Dreams. She explained that it was a great way to get to know Katy Perry’s audience, which was bigger than hers. When she was asked whether she was a fan of Katy Perry, the Swedish star giggled in response.

This jab at Katy has sparked rumors that the singers were arch rivals and Robyn was forced to take a stand to clarify her position. In an interview with MTV, Robyn said, “”I think that girls are always expected to have opinions about each other, and maybe I don’t have an opinion about some things, you know? We’re always expected to have thoughts about what the other person is doing, and I think that’s silly. You very rarely get asked about another guy as a male artist,”

Well, that is a great answer and quite a valid point, don’t you think?

Whether you have an opinion about things or choose to not have an opinion, if you want to watch Katy Perry in action, make a beeline to our online counter and buy Katy Perry tickets today! Katy Perry knows how to work an audience, no matter what the size of the crowd is, and she has an amazing stage presence.

5 Highest Grossing Concert Tours

March 30th, 2011

Here are the top five touring acts of 2010. While they are all big names, you may be a bit surprised at some of the names on it.

5. The Black Eyed Peas- $81.6 million
It seems that everything that the Black Eyed Peas touches in recent years has turned to gold. Or Platinum, whatever. The Black Eyed Peas World Tour in 2010 sold out all 82 dates that they had. And everyone had a “Goodnight” (oooh hooo).

4. Lady Gaga- $116.2 million
It can be argued that Gaga is the biggest star in the muscle universe today. Her 2010 Fame Monster World Tour (which is actually still going on as we speak) sold out 101 of 122 shows last year. Of course, a lot of the $116 million that she received when back into production costs (Gaga is never understated), she’s still doing pretty good for herself.

3. AC/DC- $122.6 million
One of the most iconic hard rock bands of the last half centuries, AC/DC’s 2010 stadium dates found the band playing to over 1.15 million people in 28 shows. With a number “Black Ice” hitting number one recently, it can be argued that AC/DC is as popular, if not popular, then it as ever been.

2. U2- $131.5 million
To be honest, the only reason why U2 isn’t number one on this list is because they had to cancel a full North American tour thanks to Bono’s back issues. In fact, U2 was able to make all their money with only 22 dates (and 22 sell outs). Expect the band to take up the top spot in 2011 with their rescheduled North American tour.

1. Bon Jovi- $146.5 million
While they may not be the flashiest or the most beloved band in rock, Bon Jovi is quite possibly the most consistent. Regardless of whether they release a new album or not, they hit the road almost every year. And their fans keeping buying tickets, with 69 sell outs in 69 dates. Though the band is going to take the next couple of years off, they will hit the road again.
