Formerly the Seattle Supersonics, the Oklahoma City Thunder made their move from Washington to California in 2008, and along with the move a change in name as well as jerseys. After forty years in the Emerald City, new owner Clay Bennet, who had purchased the Supersonics for a mere $350 million in 2006, decided he'd had enough of Seattle's rules and regulations and opted for a change. So, once donning green and gold uniforms, today the reinvented Oklahoma City Thunder wear the all-new orange and light-blue colors and proudly call the Ford Arena their home.

On July 7, 2008 the Oklahoma City Thunder played their debut game in the Orlando Pro Summer League, and consisted primarily of rookies and free-agents and they featured their new uniforms. On October 14, 2008 the Okalahoma City Thunder played their first home game at the Ford Center against the Los Angeles Clippers and lost. Their first official season game also resulted in a loss, against the Milwaukee Bucks in a relatively close 87-98. Then, in the Oklahoma City Thunder's second game, they beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking their first franchise win ever. Their first season resulted in a rough outcome, finishing with only nine wins and a staggering thirty-four losses.
