    Angels of Anaheim Information

    Prospects to Watch

As the Angels of Anaheim prepares for the upcoming season, three players are regarded as performances to watch.

One of them is Nick Adenhart, a right-hander who had a solid season at Double-A Arkansas, finishing fifth in the Texas League in ERA at 3.65 while going 10-8. He likely needs a full year at Triple-A before the Angels are comfortable giving him a real look in their deep and talented rotation.

Another is Rick Thompson who is an Aussie import with great stuff, the 23-year-old right-hander opened eyes at Salt Lake with 32 strikeouts and six walks in 25 innings. Promoted to Anaheim with Jason Bulger, another reliever with superior stuff, Thompson struggled, giving up eight earned runs in seven innings. But the club remains high on his talent and attitude and thinks he can be a quality middle reliever or setup man.

Last but not the least is Brandon Wood who is expected to open the season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he hit .272 with a team-high 23 homers and 77 RBIs in 2007 while getting a few cameos in Angels of Anaheim. It was a learning experience for him who was introduced to third base after playing shortstop all of his life and handled the new role capably. He could be with the Angels of Anaheim by midseason, providing right-handed power, if he breaks out at Salt Lake.

    • Angels Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)
Los Angeles Angels Garret Anderson might be a free agent for the first time in his career, but he has obviously been paying attention. Anderson has hired Scott Boras as his agent. The 36-year-old Anderson was represented by Chris Arnold for most of his career. After Anderson signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension in April 2004, there were changes in Arnold's agency, and Anderson opted to go without an agent the past few years. With his future uncertain, Anderson has chosen the premier agent in baseball to represent him. Among Boras' clients are some of this winter's premier free agents—Mark Teixeira, Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, Ivan Rodriguez, Jason Varitek, Oliver Perez and others. The extension Anderson signed in 2004 included an option for the 2009 season.

    • K-Rod's agent: No talks until winter meetings (AP)
Anaheim Angels Francisco Rodriguez's agent won't start detailed discussions with teams until the winter meetings open in Las Vegas on Dec. 8. Paul Kinzer, who represents the free-agent closer, doesn't expect the marketplace to get busy for another 10 days. "I'll probably see the Mets at the winter meetings. I don't have anything else planned," he said Wednesday.
