Dolphin Stadium Background and Information
The Dolphin Stadium is home to the Miami Dolphins. As previous hosts of the 2001 Super Bowl, the stadium is primed and ready to go for another landmark event. Built in the fall of 1996, this $168.5 million construction took nearly two years to complete. It debuted with the Buccaneers defeating the Chicago Bears 27-15.
The Stadium seats 65,000 on a regular-game basis, and is equipped to expand another 10,000 seats for larger events. The 2001 Super Bowl XXXV held a record 71, 921. Known for its 103 foot steel-and-concrete pirate ship, the canons elicit confetti or soft footballs during touch downs for the Buccaneers, as well as playing the signature Pirates of the Caribbean song "Yo Ho".
Whether seated in one of the 195 luxury suites, or in the stands with the rest of the fans, the Raymond James Stadium exudes an aura of excitement and anticipation. From the movie-esque feel of the pirate ship, to the state-of-the-art video score boards and rotating billboards, being inside the stadium feels like being on a magical vacation for grown-ups; yet it is sure to elicit the kid in you!
