Milwaukee Bucks History

Once again, the Milwaukee Bucks had another losing season, but by only two wins. They went 40-42 this past season compared to the 2004-05 season going 30-52. In a highly competitive Central Division in which all teams made the playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks fell to former NBA champions, the Detroit Pistons. Even though they lost in the first round, they made a return to the playoffs after failing to qualify the previous year but making it the year before. With three quality big men on the roster, the Milwaukee Bucks have a viable chance in making it this upcoming season.

In the 2005 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks won the first overall pick with only a 6.3% chance. They drafted Utah star, Andrew Bogut, who also played for the Australian national team. Averaging nearly 10 points a game and 7 rebounds, he was voted to the All-Rookie First team despite having to share time with veterans Jamaal Magloire and Dan Gadzuric.

The 2005-06 season saw the return of point guard, T.J. Ford. After missing out on the 2004-05 season because of a spinal injury, Ford came back and put up 12 points a game, 5 points more than his average his rookie season, and added nearly 7 assists a game. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round with the 8th pick. Some analysts said Ford was the best point guard in the draft next to Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade.

The Milwaukee Bucks future is looking brighter as they have all three big men returning, Ford, and probably the best player and shooter on the team, Michael Redd. Redd was chosen recently to play on Team USA, the U.S.’s personally invited team to bring back the gold medal in men’s basketball. With those players set in position, the Milwaukee Bucks will look to the draft and the free agency to fill any remaining holes.

The team has already worked out players they think they will take with their 39th overall selection. The first players to work out for the Milwaukee Bucks were Marquette University forward Steve Novak and Stanford forward Dan Grunfeld, who attended Nicolet (Wis.) High School. Other players to work out for team were, Keelan Amelianovich, a big guard from Illinois Wesleyan University, a Div. III school and Blake Schilb, a junior guard/forward from Loyola University in Illinois.

Since the Milwaukee Bucks traded this year’s first round pick and Desmond Mason for Jamaal Magloire, who was playing for the New Orleans Hornets, they might not find their backup swingman or big point guard, two players Director of Player Personnel Dave Babcock has said the team is looking for. Although, with their entire division making the playoffs, the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavs, Chicago Bulls, and Indiana Pacers, the Milwaukee Bucks are going to need all the help they can get to return to the playoffs and hopefully, make it past the first round.
